How much does a minute of calls cost with Retell AI?

Between $0.07 and $0.31, depending on the language model, the voice and the telephony you select for your agent. That is the range the vendor publishes on its usage based grid, in US dollars only. There is no monthly subscription to start: the plan is called Pay as you go and it bills what you actually consume, with no annual contract.

The spread between the two ends of that range is wide, and it is not decorative. An agent running a light model with a standard voice does not cost the same as one assembled from the most expensive components on offer. That is what earns Retell AI 4 out of 5 on price in our assessment, but only 3.5 out of 5 on ease of use: the price list is readable, the final number is less so.

What goes into the per minute price?

The rate breaks into several lines, and only one of them goes directly to Retell AI.

Line item What the price list publishes
Retell voice infrastructure $0.055 per minute
Model, voice and telephony Variable, based on the components you pick
Total published range $0.07 to $0.31 per minute
Phone number $2 per month
Concurrent calls 20 included, then $8 per month per extra call
Support outside Enterprise Community and email

That line by line disclosure is a genuine strength: few voice agent vendors break their pricing down this far. The flip side is that the addition happens on your end. Until you have locked in the model, the voice and the phone carrier, the cost of a call stays an estimate. If you are sizing a full phone line rather than a single agent, our guide to the AI receptionist and its per minute cost walks through the same mechanics end to end.

What do the $10 in free credits get you?

Enough to test without committing a budget. Retell AI hands out $10 in credits when you create an account, with full access to the platform and 20 concurrent calls included. No card is needed to pick a plan, because there is no plan to pick: the free account is simply a pay as you go account that has not burned through its credits yet.

How long those credits stay valid has not been verified in our records. We scored the free tier 3.5 out of 5: fair for validating a call script and listening to the voice quality, shorter if you want to push real volume through it over several days.

Which fees get added to the call minutes?

Two recurring lines, both easy to forget at budget time. A phone number is billed at $2 a month. And if the 20 included concurrent calls are not enough, each extra channel costs $8 a month.

That second point deserves a look before you commit. Twenty calls in parallel comfortably covers a small business handling inbound requests as they arrive. An outbound campaign or a seasonal spike on a hotline is a different story. In our reading, this is the one place in the grid where the cost can move on you without warning, because it does not track your minute volume, it tracks the shape of your traffic.

One more thing to factor in: outside Enterprise, support is limited to the community and email. There is no priority line if an agent drops on a Friday night.

Where is your call data stored?

In the United States, on AWS, for processing as well as storage. Retell AI’s documentation states that the vendor does not yet operate services inside the European Union. That is the tool’s main limit for a buyer with residency requirements, and the reason for its 2.5 out of 5 on the GDPR criterion.

The compliance file is not empty, though. Retell AI lists SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 along with HIPAA, offers a DPA with EU standard contractual clauses that can be signed online at no cost, and lets you set retention agent by agent, from 1 day to 2 years. That last setting is useful: on calls that carry customer data, cutting retention is the most direct lever you have.

In our reading, two situations need to be kept apart. A signed DPA with standard clauses covers the transfer legally, and for plenty of commercial use cases that is enough. If your internal policy or your sector requires data residency in a specific region, no contract clause substitutes for a local region, and Retell AI cannot supply one today.

When does an Enterprise quote make sense?

When volume or security becomes the main subject. The Enterprise plan is quoted individually and adds volume pricing, a custom MSA and DPA, SSO, role based access control, an optional dedicated server and 24/7 support through a dedicated portal.

No floor price is published for that plan. In practice, volume discounts only pay off once you run enough minutes for the savings to cover the negotiation time. SSO and role based access control are often the real trigger: those are IT requirements, not cost savings.

Retell AI, Vapi or Synthflow: which one fits you?

All three sell voice agents, with opposite business models.

Entry pricing $0.07 to $0.31 per minute $0.05 per minute of hosting, plus provider costs Contracts from $30,000 a year

If you want to launch a phone agent quickly, pay for what you use and absorb inbound spikes, Retell AI is the most direct route, with 20 concurrent calls included from day one. If you are a technical team that wants to choose every component and keep data in Europe, look at Vapi and its documented EU region instead, at the cost of assembling the stack yourself. If you are a contact center with an annual budget and a need for hands on onboarding, Synthflow now sells enterprise contracts only, from $30,000 a year, with no published per minute rate.

Frequently asked questions

Is Retell AI free to start?

There is no subscription on the main plan. Creating an account gives you $10 in free credits and 20 free concurrent calls. After that you pay for the minutes you use, from $0.07 to $0.31 each.

Why does Retell AI's per minute price vary so much?

Because the bill stacks several components: the language model, the voice and the telephony, on top of Retell's voice infrastructure at $0.055 a minute. The published range runs from $0.07 to $0.31 per minute, so your real cost depends on the parts you pick for your agent.

How much is a phone number on Retell AI?

A number is billed at $2 a month, separate from your call minutes. It is a recurring line item that does not depend on usage. Retell AI publishes its prices in US dollars only.

How many concurrent calls does Retell AI include?

Twenty concurrent calls are included at no extra cost, even before you spend anything. Each additional concurrent call is billed at $8 a month. Worth checking if you expect spikes of inbound calls.

Does Retell AI host data in the EU?

No. Processing and storage take place in the United States on AWS, and the vendor's documentation states that it does not yet operate services in the European Union. A DPA with EU standard contractual clauses can be signed online at no cost, and retention is configurable per agent, from 1 day to 2 years.

What is in the Retell AI Enterprise plan?

It is quoted individually and covers volume pricing, a custom MSA and DPA, SSO, role based access control, an optional dedicated server and 24/7 support through a dedicated portal. Outside Enterprise, support is limited to the community and email.
